Hi, my name is Ben Dahl, and I founded Dude Quest to fill a gap I see between what young men are taught in school and the reality of the changing world and the struggle it creates for them.
It started for me when I dropped out of college as a sophomore. Frustrated by a sense that I wasn’t learning anything “real”, I took out additional student loans to buy an online business course. It taught me about mindset and how to create value for businesses on my own. The course prepared me for the opportunity when I met my first mentor who offered me a job as a Fortune 500 marketing consultant. I left school behind, and started traveling around the country, and the world, working with some of the most recognizable brands in the country.
That early trajectory launched my career in marketing and helped me become a marketing director by 25 and has given me the chance to work with a wide variety of interesting and capable people from all walks of life.
But my obsession with my career and money would take a back seat to something more important. When I was 22, I met my incredible wife who was, at the time, struggling with an eating disorder. Despite her inner challenges, we quickly became best friends and made tons of good memories together. But just a few months after our wedding, things really came to a head, and I nearly lost her to malnutrition from her eating disorder.
It was during that time that my attention shifted from primarily focusing on business to devoting all my time and energy to learning about mental health, spirituality, and what really makes us human. That was when everything changed for me. I realized that by focusing so much on money and personal achievements I could show to other people, I had neglected to work on my inner world so that I could have peace.
Over the following years, I watched my wife heal completely from her eating disorder, and it’s been the greatest miracle of my life. I’ve seen how much someone can change when they have the courage to work through their fears and a support system to help them along the way. I believe that kind of recovery and courage is possible for anyone with the right help.
Since then, I’ve poured myself further into mental health, philosophy, and studying the trends in modern society to understand the crises facing young men today, how they came about, and how to address them.
Dude Quest is the synthesis of what I’ve learned in business, mental health and philosophy, and the challenges of the modern world.
